Polycarbonate Sound Barrier Panels: Acoustic and Project Checks
Custom transparent PC barrier panels selected against the acoustic method, post grid, wind/impact criteria and project drawings.
Need transparent panels for a noise-barrier project? SinoPlastix can quote custom solid polycarbonate sheets and drawing-based cut parts for a post-and-panel layout. Send the acoustic target, panel schedule and mounting section together: a transparent sheet’s laboratory result and the reduction heard behind a completed barrier are different measures.

Put the right acoustic target on the drawing
Use the project specification’s test method and measured object, rather than asking for a generic “dB reduction.” Laboratory airborne sound insulation measures a tested panel or element under a defined mounting; ISO 10140-2:2021 is one published method for building elements. Roadside insertion loss asks how much the receiver level changes with the whole barrier in place. The U.S. FHWA noise-barrier handbook describes it as a before/after receiver measure, affected by barrier geometry and site conditions. Neither figure transfers automatically from a loose sheet to a new post, seal or height design.

| Question in the tender | Evidence or drawing needed | Who approves it |
|---|---|---|
| How much sound passes through the transparent panel? | Named laboratory method and report for the proposed panel or element, with thickness, size and mounting recorded | Acoustic consultant compares the result with the specified transmission criterion |
| How much quieter is the protected receiver? | Barrier alignment, length, height, ground and receiver positions, plus the project prediction or field method | Acoustic consultant assesses installed insertion loss |
| Will the panel stay in place outdoors? | Post span, edge capture, wind and impact criteria, holes, thermal movement and maintenance access | Structural/barrier designer approves the assembly |
Use sheet data for layout, not an acoustic promise
A clear solid PC reference density of 1.20 g/cm³ gives approximate sheet-only masses of 9.6 kg/m² at 8 mm, 14.4 kg/m² at 12 mm and 19.2 kg/m² at 16 mm. These are planning values for handling and post loads, not a claimed noise rating or a universal thickness recommendation. The quotation and any test report must identify the offered grade, finished thickness, edge detail and relevant specimen.
Include the clear opening and visible panel grid, post centres, four-edge or partial capture, fixing slots and gaskets, design wind and impact requirement, UV-exposed face, cleaning method and replacement access. Where transparency is essential, request a representative panel and view it with the intended background and viewing angle; scratches, reflections and frames change the result seen from the road and the protected side.
Make the PC barrier RFQ quoteable
Send the barrier elevation, panel IDs and finished sizes, post/profile section, acoustic specification and test method, wind and impact criteria, proposed colour or clarity, holes and edge finish, quantity, packing sequence and destination. SinoPlastix can quote the custom PC grade, sheet thickness and CNC scope and identify which original material or panel reports are available for the proposed construction. Published prices and lead times are planning averages; production complexity and the written quotation set the actual terms.
For clear panel stock and fabricated parts see solid PC sheets and PC CNC machining. A building glazing opening has different frame and approval questions from a roadside sound barrier.
Questions buyers ask
Can you promise a noise reduction from sheet thickness alone?
No. Give us the specified test method and the panel-and-post drawing. Laboratory panel insulation, barrier geometry and installed insertion loss are different checks; the acoustic consultant evaluates the complete project.
How heavy is a 12 mm solid PC sheet?
At representative PC density of 1.20 g/cm³, a 12 mm sheet is about 14.4 kg/m² before frame and hardware. Confirm the offered grade and finished dimensions for handling and structural design.
Can you cut transparent panels to our post grid?
Yes. Send a panel schedule and dimensioned drawings with finished size, holes or slots, edge detail, grade, quantity and packing order. The written quote confirms the available custom sheet and fabrication scope.
