Start with the fire requirement, then choose the PC grade. If your drawing or purchase specification has no named fire classification, a standard PC grade may be the right starting quote for its optical, impact and fabrication needs. If it calls for UL 94 V-0, V-2 or another named classification, request a flame-retardant PC grade and a report covering the offered thickness, colour and product form. Neither a “FR” label nor a photograph approves the installed part.

Standard PC or FR PC: the buying decision

| Project brief | Start with | What to check before ordering |
|---|---|---|
| No fire class is named; you need a clear cover, screen or formed component. | Standard solid PC can be evaluated for impact, appearance, fabrication and total cost. | Confirm the end-use specification truly has no fire-rating clause; standard PC has no implied classification here. |
| The buyer names UL 94 V-0, V-2 or another material rating. | Request the FR PC grade route matching that class. | Report/recognition for offered grade, thickness, colour and form; compare the standard and edition in the purchase clause. |
| The buyer specifies smoke, toxic-gas, railway, building, battery or enclosure performance. | Send the exact clause before a grade is proposed. | A UL 94 material result alone may not answer smoke or whole-assembly requirements; request the relevant separate evidence. |
| The part is cut, drilled, bent, coated or mounted. | Quote the finished PC part as well as the sheet. | Drawing revision, minimum finished wall, coating, openings and assembly details; clarify which evidence applies after fabrication. |
What UL 94 V-0, V-1 and V-2 actually compare
UL Solutions explains that its vertical small-specimen test measures afterflame/afterglow and whether flaming drops ignite a cotton indicator. The table summarizes selected classification criteria; the full method, conditioning and specimen rules also apply. These are test criteria, not SinoPlastix product results or fire resistance of an installed roof, guard or enclosure.
| UL 94 vertical criterion | V-0 | V-1 | V-2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Afterflame from each individual flame application | ≤10 seconds | ≤30 seconds | ≤30 seconds |
| Total afterflame for ten applications | ≤50 seconds | ≤250 seconds | ≤250 seconds |
| Burning plus afterglow after second flame application | ≤30 seconds | ≤60 seconds | ≤60 seconds |
| Flaming drops ignite cotton below specimen | No | No | May ignite cotton (permitted for V-2) |
| Burns up to the holding clamp | No | No | No |
The specified specimen thickness and conditioning still matter. A V-0 result at one thickness or formulation cannot be assigned to a different offered sheet by analogy. UL also distinguishes the horizontal HB method and the more severe 5V methods; do not convert their labels into a universal material ranking. If a building assembly is involved, have the project specifier identify the applicable system-level fire standard.
Example: an electrical cover versus an ordinary clear screen
Electrical cover: the equipment specification calls for UL 94 V-0 at the finished minimum wall. Send that clause, the minimum wall after forming, colour, drawing and quantity. We can propose a matching FR PC grade route and provide the available original report through sales for the offered product to be checked. Clear equipment screen: no fire class is named, but visibility, impact and cleaning matter. Start with a clear standard or hard-coated PC option and the screen’s actual hazard/assembly requirements; add an FR requirement only if the project specification calls for one.
What the RFQ should say
Send the target standard, edition and class; who requires it; sheet or finished-part drawing; minimum finished thickness, colour and size; coating or fabrication steps; quantity, destination and other required tests. Common original test reports are available from SinoPlastix sales on request, and the relevant report must match the quoted grade and scope. The written custom quote confirms actual specification, price and lead time; website averages are planning references.

Questions buyers ask
Does standard PC automatically have a UL 94 rating?
No class is assumed for a standard PC quote. If your specification names a rating, ask for the proposed grade and report covering the offered thickness, colour and form.
Does UL 94 V-0 mean a finished enclosure is fireproof?
No. UL 94 V-0 is a small-specimen material flammability classification under stated test conditions. Enclosure, building, smoke or electrical requirements may need different evidence for the complete design.
Can I request the original report without posting it online?
Yes. Send the required class, standard, thickness and proposed use to SinoPlastix sales. We can provide applicable common original test reports on request and confirm their scope against the quoted PC grade.
