Polycarbonate roofing is a roof-light or cladding system made from solid, corrugated or multiwall polycarbonate panels with compatible profiles, seals and fasteners. The sheet alone does not make a weatherproof roof. Panel form, span, slope, support, thermal movement, drainage and installation details must be designed together.
Choose the panel form by roof task
Corrugated panels can integrate with matching profiles; multiwall panels add internal cells and require channel orientation plus end closure; solid panels provide a different optical and structural response. Compare the actual grade and system rather than treating every “polycarbonate roof panel” as interchangeable.
Build the load and weather basis
The project engineer determines wind, snow, maintenance and other loads using the building location and code. The panel supplier’s span information is usable only for its stated thickness, profile, support direction and loading assumptions. Minimum slope comes from the selected roof system and drainage design, not a universal web answer.

- laps, flashing, ridge, eaves, gutters and penetrations;
- thermal movement allowance at holes, joints and end stops;
- UV-protected face, colour, light requirement and condensation strategy.
Separate durability from a lifespan promise
Service life depends on grade, UV layer, climate, orientation, temperature, chemicals, maintenance and installation. Request the offered product’s current warranty and exclusions where needed. A warranty is not a structural calculation or proof that seals, flashings and fasteners will last for the same period.
Plan safe access
Do not assume a translucent panel is walkable. Roof access, fall protection, crawling boards and maintenance paths must follow the system supplier, project designer and site safety plan. Damage from stepping or dropped tools can be hidden until the next weather event.
